Acquittals for one pound notes 1818-12-05

In the Old Bailey on Saturday 5 December 1818, John Williams and William Connor were indicted for uttering as true forged £1 banknotes, with intent to defraud the Governor and Company of the Bank of England. Although the jury initially returned a verdict of guilty of using a forged note, they announced that they did not believe the main part of the evidence against the defendant and the judge instructed them that they ought then to acquit.
