William Godwin's Diary

Percy Jocelyn, bishop of Clogher (1764-1843) who was deprived of his see by an ecclesiastical court after being caught in a homosexual act with a guardsman in a London public house on 19 July 1822. The case received extensive newspaper attention, cartoons were soon published about the affair and further exposés of clerical vice and crime quickly followed. Jocelyn was allowed to escape without trial and he moved to Scotland and worked as a butler.
