William Godwin's Diary

Events

William Wilberforce (1759-1833), politician, philanthropist and slavery abolitionist, had wished to be buried in Stoke Newington with his sister and elder daughter, but, following requests from politicians, his family agreed that he should be interred in Westminster Abbey. The lord chancellor, the speaker of the Commons and the duke of Gloucester were among his pallbearers and he was laid to rest in the north transept, close to Pitt, Fox and Canning.
