Events

Royal decrees issued by Charles X of France that imposed pre-publication censorship on the press, dissolved the newly elected National Assembly (dominated by opposition to the king’s minister Polignac), remodelled the electoral system to limit the franchise and scheduled new elections. The four ordinances were agreed by Charles X’s council on 25 July and published in the Moniteur, the government newspaper, the following morning.
