William Godwin's Diary

Events

The national convocation that Napoleon summoned to agree a set of liberal constitutional reforms met in Paris on 1 June 1815, accompanied by a grand display of spectacle. Burton R. Pollin argues that the liberal reforms of the Champ de Mai played an important role in influencing Godwin’s second Letter of Verax, which argued that the people of France had agreed to Napoleon’s return and that the allies should not try to reverse this decision through the use of force.
