William Godwin's Diary


Negotiations between Britain and America had been ongoing from mid-1814 in Ghent, Belgium. The peace treaty was signed on 24 December 1814 and confirmed the pre-war status quo, although British and American forces in America, unaware of the peace, continued to fight into February.
