William Godwin's Diary

Events

Prince Frederick (1763–1827) was forced to resign as commander-in-chief of the British army after Colonel Gwyllym Lloyd Wardle MP raised allegations in parliament that his mistress, Mary Anne Clark (1776?-1852), was promising promotion to officers for money. A select committee found that he had been guilty of carelessness but no more and he was reinvested in 1811.
