William Godwin's Diary

Events

Horatio Nelson (1758–1805) led British naval forces to a decisive victory over a French and Spanish fleet near Cadiz. During the battle, Nelson was hit by a French musket-ball and died. His body was preserved in a cask of spirits so that he could be buried in England. He was buried in St Paul's Cathedral, London, with extraordinary pomp and reverence.
