Henry Addington, Viscount Sidmouth (1757–1844), resigned his place in the government in protest at the appointment of Sir Charles Middleton (1726-1813), naval reformer, to the Admiralty after Melville was forced to resign as First Lord of the Admirality following reports on corruption in naval departments.
