William Godwin's Diary

Events

Napoleon ordered the arrest of Louis-Antoine-Henri de Bourbon-Condé, an émigré prince of the Bourbon family, who was living in Baden across the Rhine from France. He was swiftly executed on tenuous evidence for being an English agent in March. The incursion across the Rhine and the arbitrary nature of the execution caused consternation throughout Europe where periods of mourning were observed in a variety of different countries.
