William Godwin's Diary

Events

Oliver Bond (1760/61–1798) was a militant member of the United Irishmen. He was arrested for high treason with other United Irishmen in March 1798 and defended, unsuccessfully, by Godwin’s close friend John Philpott Curran. He was scheduled to be executed on 27 July but it was postponed for two days and subsequently cancelled due an agreement between the Cornwallis administration and the prisoners, who would provide the administration with information about the United Irishmen.
