William Godwin's Diary

Events

Lloyd Kenyon, first Baron Kenyon (1732–1802), judge, resigned his position as Master of the Rolls. He became a peer on 9 June. Richard Pepper Arden, first Baron Alvanley (1744–1804), judge, was then appointed Master of the Rolls despite the protestations of Edward Thurlow, first Baron Thurlow (1731–1806), lord chancellor, who felt Arden was too partisan in the House of Commons to be a judge.
