Samuel Horsley (1733-1806) was awarded a prebend in Gloucester Cathedral (a share of its revenue) on 19 April and elected bishop of St David’s on 6 May 1788 as a reward for his defence of Trinitarian doctrine against the attacks of Joseph Priestley.
