William Godwin's Diary

Events

It is unclear how far this and similar entries related to Godwin’s formal duties as ‘Office Keeper and Yeoman Usher of the Receipt of the Exchequer’. Godwin himself, writing to Mary Shelley in July 1833, declared that he was ‘much tormented, by my place, by my book’ which suggests that the post brought certain responsibilities.
