William Godwin's Diary

Events

Percy Shelley and Godwin had been reconciled to some extent (at least at the level of correspondence) following Shelley’s obvious concern for Fanny Imlay at the time of her disappearance, but they still did not meet. After Shelley's first wifeHarriet’s tragic suicide Shelley wrote to Skinner Street and two days later called and spoke with Godwin's wife, Mary Jane. On 26 December 1816 Godwin wrote to Shelley and the following day he received Shelley’s call. On 30 December Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley married and the family was reconciled.
