Mary Jane Godwin left for a stay in Southend on 17 August. She was joined four days later by William Godwin accompanied by Sarah (who seems to have been a servant in the house). They stayed for just over a month. Godwin joined Mary Jane on 4 September, returning on 6 September, and did so again from 18-21 September. Mary Jane eventually returned on 29 September.
