William Godwin's Diary

Events

Godwin is unwell and Mary Jane Godwin undertakes a series of calls on his behalf. The purposes of these calls is unclear, as are those of the subsequent two days and again in late August. It is notable that, although the Diary does not report it, Mary Jane did not return to Skinner Street after her vacation in May/June but lived with the Toppings family in Baker Street. She continued to go to the bookshop and the trial separation came to an end on 25 August 1811.
