William Godwin's Diary

Events

John Wolcot (1738-1819) was the target of a notorious court case in June 1807 for ‘criminal conversation’ (a seduction and adultery) of his landlord’s wife. Wolcot was then seventy and the case was thrown out when he pleaded that he had no fire left! Godwin was on good terms with him and may have commissioned work from him before he went blind in 1814.
