William Godwin's Diary

Events

The debate commenced 30 March 1835 on a motion that the House resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House to consider the Temporalities of the Church of Ireland. The proposal was that if this should be done then the consequent proposal would be that any surplus which may remain from the income of the Church, after fully providing for the spiritual instruction of the members of the established Church, ought to applied locally to general education of all classes of Christian (Col 374). Again, with a minority ministry there was a division on the proposal and a further defeat for the government.
