William Godwin's Diary

Events

A Bill proposing Catholic emancipation was rejected in the House of Lords on 21 April. A parallel debate took place in the Commons, beginning on the same date and concluding on 24 April. This was also rejected. There had been hopes that the Prince of Wales, in his capacity as Prince Regent, would support the cause of Catholic emancipation, but he proved as resistant as his father had been.
