William Godwin's Diary

Events

Godwin attended a debate on a motion that the king be asked to recommend to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland that he seriously consider the situation of the Irish Catholics, in the interests of strengthening the support of all to the existing constitution. The motion was defeated by a majority of 146. The names Godwin cites are acquaintances, mostly in the public gallery.
