The British Museum Department of Prints and Drawings was formed in 1808 from parts of the collections of Sir Hans Sloane (acquired at the foundation of the Museum in 1753), William Fawkener (bequeathed 1769), Rev. C.M. Cracherode (bequeathed 1799) and the printed ephemera collected by Sarah Banks, sister of Sir Joseph Banks (acquired 1818). See www.britishmuseum.org.
