William Godwin's Diary

Events

Godwin indicated his visit to the panorama, which featured the ruins of Pompeii as they appeared in the early nineteenth century, including the temples of Bacchus and Jupiter. Robert Burford (1791–1861) had traveled to Pompeii to obtain his sketches and scenes, and in May a second view opened with the additions of the Tragic Theatre, Covered Theatre, Temple of Isis, the Small Forum, and other scenes.
