William Godwin's Diary

The Polygraphic Exhibition at Pall-Mall was advertised for this day, showing 'a Variety of new Pictures in the Historic, Landscape, and Portrait Lines of Painting by the Polygraphic Art, in elegant gilt Frames'. Twenty-seven illustrations of Shakespeare by British artists originally intended for a 'New Shakespeare Gallery' in Ireland were simultaneously shown. See also entries for Boydell's Shakespeare Gallery project, for example, on 10 March 1791, 11 April 1792, and 4 April 1793.
